Why am I getting boxes after I drag and drop an RPC into Revit?

In some cases, you may experience a situation where you get a box instead of the RPC you were attempting to drag and drop into Revit.

There are only a few conditions where you would get a box instead of an RPC. Please follow these recommendations.

  1. Make sure your software is up to date.
The first step to prevent your RPCs from turning into boxes is to make sure that you have the latest version of AVAIL Desktop and AVAIL Browser. You should be running AVAIL Desktop version 4.1.2.0 and AVAIL Browser for Revit version 4.5.3.0 at a minimum for RPC drag and drop to be functioning properly. You should also have the RPC for Revit plugin version 25.0.0.47 or higher. You can get the updated versions of AVAIL software from My Downloads or the AVAIL Installers or RPC Installers channels in AVAIL.
  2. You may have found a corrupt RPC.
If your software is all up to date and you still get an RPC that comes into Revit as a box then there is a good chance that your RPC is corrupt. We recommend that you take note of the RPC and email our support team with the name so that we can test the RPC.

RPC Families are created when you place an RPC. The famliy is stored in your Revit file and it is cached on your local disk. It is highly recommended that you clean up the cached RPC families. Please visit this article for instructions.
